A Speech Delivered by the Afghan Ambassador to China, H.E. Mr. Mohammad Kabir Farahi, at the 14th Anniversary Ceremony of Home and Abroad News Press

Dear Mr. Wei Yan, the Chief Editor of Home and Abroad News Press, dear guests, ladies and gentlemen, good evening!
It is great pleasure to participate in tonight's awarding ceremony; I would like to express my most sincere wishes to Home and Abroad News Press for its 14th anniversary ceremony. I also wish to thank the Home and Abroad News Press for inviting and providing the award of my contribution for promoting bilateral relationship between China and Afghanistan. I would like also to thank for the opportunity to talk about my country, The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. I wish to convey my best wishes and extend a very warm welcome of all the participants.
First of all, I would like to say a few words about Afghanistan's developments and achievements during the past 14 years.
Soon after the September 11 terrorist attacks in USA, the world felt the threats of danger that originated from Afghanistan. A coalition headed by the USA sent forces to Afghanistan and with the help of Afghans, the Taliban regime, Al-Qaeda and their supporters were eliminated. Since then, new Afghanistan is born. Today, every Afghan citizen sees him/her in their own country and this is a great achievement in the past 14 years.
In the past 14 years, Afghanistan faces many challenges in the fight against terrorism and illegal drugs. Despite all these threats and challenges, over 7,000 Kilometer of roads have been constructed and asphalted. Ten border customs have been rebuilt and linked with neighboring countries. This has served as a bridge between South and Central Asian countries.
We have built thousands of schools and over 11.5 million students (boys and girls) are enrolled. Over 200 thousand students are enrolled in higher government educational institutions in the country. Afghanistan also has had great success in the field of communication and around 90% of the Afghans have access to mobile and land lines phones.
As two good neighbors, Afghanistan and China have an extensive friendly relationship background along the history, trade relationship between the two nations goes back to the second century Before Christianity. Afghanistan at that time was the crossroad of trade convoys between Asia and Europe through the Silk Road. Afghanistan and China are longtime supporters of friendship. The People's Republic of China supported Afghanistan constructing its infrastructures and foundation. After the establishment of new government in Afghanistan, friendly relations between our countries has been further extended and advanced and in the meantime, economic and trade activities between the two countries became increasingly active.
The two countries signed the Cooperation and Good Neighboring Agreement in 2006 and promoted their relationships to Strategic Partnership in 2012. The current cooperation between two countries is in the strongest level. The official state visit of His Excellency Mohamad Ashraf Ghani, the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in October, 2014 and friendly and prolific discussion with His Excellency President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. This discussion opened a new chapter in the development and further strengthening of this collaborative relation.
Trade exchange between two countries has raised from 20 million dollars in 2002 to 834 million dollars in 2013. Investment of People's Republic of China in extraction of Ainak Cooper Mine and exploitation of oil in northern Afghanistan are the biggest major infrastructure projects in Afghanistan.
Once again ladies and gentlemen, I would like to thank the Home and Abroad News Press for this great ceremony and the award. I wish you all have a pleasant time tonight.
   Thank you!

H.E. Mr. Mohammad Kabir Farahi
